Energy Data Analyst

Data analyst, Microsoft PL-300 certified, with an engineering foundation and three years spent measuring how Canadian homes actually use energy — a blower door, HOT2000 models, 250+ audits. I build analyses where energy-sector data meets field-tested judgment, because the sector generates enormous amounts of data and acts on too little of it.

The long way into data

My path started with a mechanical engineering degree from IIT Ropar in India, followed by two years in automotive manufacturing at Tata Motors.

I completed a master's in aerospace engineering at the University of Toronto in 2020 — right as COVID hit and the engineering job market went quiet. I took on whatever work I could find, from truck mechanic to Uber deliveries, while I figured out my next move. A friend working as a Registered Energy Advisor introduced me to the field, and it clicked immediately: here was engineering I could measure. Every house was a system with inputs, losses, and a number at the end that told you whether you were right.

I got certified and spent the next three years walking through 250+ homes across Canada with a blower door, a clipboard full of measurements, and a methodology built on decades of building science research. Every audit fed into a report and an energy model: air leakage measurements, heat loss coefficients, equipment efficiency ratings, estimated savings by upgrade path. I was doing data work long before I called it that.

Now I do it by name. I passed the Microsoft PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst Associate) in August 2026, and I've been building the rest of the toolkit in public — an end-to-end SQL and Python analysis of Ontario's electricity generation mix, and a Power BI dashboard on energy use and emissions across Ontario's Broader Public Sector.

My edge isn't just technical skill. It's knowing what the numbers mean before the model runs — I can tell when a heat loss coefficient looks wrong before the dashboard can, because I've measured hundreds of them — and knowing which questions are worth asking in the first place.
